It doesn't matter how you honor them, just that you do.

When planning a service, you have many options available to you and we will do all that we can to provide a beautiful and respectful ceremony. No matter your choice, we can offer you a space to join with family and friends in grief, comfort and love. And above all, we will do our utmost to honor your loved one. We will be happy to go over all your options and answer any questions that you may have.

A funeral service often times called a celebration of life service is a special time for family and friends to comfort one another, begin to find healing and celebrate a life. Whether you choose burial or cremation, you can hold a visitation or gathering to honor your loved one. We are happy to provide a more traditional ceremony or something completely unique. Many cultures and religions have special traditions and we will do our best to accommodate your requests. This is a moment for you and your family and we are honored to help you in any way that we can.

You may hear your husband or father say that when they die just throw them out in the pasture.  They don't want to be a bother.  While their intentions are good, we ALL need to go through the experience of grief.  Viewing our loved one validates the fact that they are physically gone.  It helps to set the tone for a healthy grieving process.  A service and visitation allow friends and family to come together to validate the loss and offer their sympathy.

Just like a funeral service, a memorial service is a time to remember your loved one. This can be held shortly after death or weeks later, with or without your loved one physically present. What’s important is that it creates a time and a place for family and friends to gather together and support one another, share memories and pay their respects. We can hold a memorial service at our funeral home, the final resting place, your home or other venue.

Our award winning team of professionals can help you plan a memorial that will be as unique as your loved one's life.  We are trained in working under tight deadlines and with all types of budgets.

A burial is defined as the action or practice of interring a dead body.  The body may be placed in a casket and burial vault or it can be cremated and placed in an urn and urn vault prior to burial.    Cemeteries date back thousands of years and create a place for your family to create a legacy of your loved one.  We are a transient society but we always tend to come back home to visit our family who are buried in our local cemeteries.

The Darby Family purchased Sunset Memorial Park located at 3901 N. Vermilion St. in Danville, IL in October of 1960.  From that date the Darby's began their quest of making Sunset Memorial Park one of the most beautiful cemeteries in the State of Illinois. Sunset boasts a host of interment options.  Traditional grave spaces, mausoleum crypts, cremation spaces, cremation niches, and many memorialization products.

In the Spring of 2021 Sunset Memorial Park will open "The Meadow".  It is East Central Illinois' first green burial section.  Green burial is caring for the dead with minimal environmental impact that aids in the conservation of natural resources, reduction of carbon emissions, protection of worker health, and the restoration and/or preservation of habitat. Green burial necessitates the use of non-toxic and biodegradable materials, such as caskets, shrouds, and urns.

Please keep in mind that choosing cremation does not diminish the value of a wonderful life. In fact, cremation opens the door to many different and unique options to honor your loved one. Cremation, like simply the disposition of the physical body of the deceased. It does not preclude you from having a Remembrance Gathering or creating a permanent memorial in a cemetery, mausoleum, or cremation garden that can be visited regularly by family and friends.

The Darby Family and staff at Sunset Funeral Homes are the leader's in performing cremations and offering unique cremation services.  Big Jim Darby had the vision to offer the cremation process to Central Illinois by building Sunset's first Cremation Center back in the mid 1970's.  No one in the area has a longer tenure of providing your family with the best in class when it comes to offering cremation services.

In 2016 Sunset built it's newest Cremation Center on the grounds of Sunset Memorial Park in Danville, IL.
