Virgil "Ray" Raymond Ferguson

     Virgil Raymond Ferguson, “Ray”, 84, of Covington, IN went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, December 22, 2022. He was born on May 7, 1938, in Danville, IL, the son of Alice (Ramsey) Dixon and Ernest Ferguson. He married Susan Meredith Ooley on December 14, 1956, in Covington, IN, celebrating 58 years of marriage until her death on May 6, 2015.
     Ray will be deeply missed by his eight children: Julie (Gerald) McDaniel of Crawfordville, FL, Perry (Mary) Ferguson of Kingman, IN, Nancy (Jody) Reese of State College, PA, Jeff (Cindy) Ferguson of Carmel, IN, Melanie (Dean) Ungerecht of Indianapolis, IN, Emily (Danny) Calton of Danville, IL, Carrie (Chris) Whittemore of Lafayette, IN, and Leah (Matt) Keele of Covington, IN. Ray is also survived by his sister Karen Ottenhoff of Niceville, FL, brother-in-law Steve Ooley of Ladoga, IN, 23 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Elizabeth Nehrig. 
     Ray graduated from Covington HS in 1956. He provided for, supported his family and lived a fulfilling life. He worked for Bunge’s (formerly Lauhoff) grain milling and distribution plant in Danville, IL for 42 years, until his retirement in January 2001. He was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed watching his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in various sporting events over the years. He also loved all things racing, including dirt track racing with his son, grandsons, and friends as well as following the NASCAR racing series. 
     A visitation service will be held on Friday, December 30, 2022 from 11:30 AM to 2 PM (EST) at West Liberty Church of Christ, 2806 West State Road 32, Covington, IN. The celebration of life service will commence at 2 PM officiated by Pastor Kurt Flora. Ray will be laid to rest at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Covington, IN.
