Sandra "Sandy" Heffern Obituary

Sandra “Sandy” Heffern, 69, of Danville passed away on June 4, 2021 at 8:15 pm at home. She was born on August 16, 1951 in Danville a daughter of Blanche and Curtis Dawes. They preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death was her husband Morris “Mick” Heffern in June of 2005, brother Curtis Wayne Dawes, and sister Sharon Moews.

              Sandy is survived by her sister, Linda “Linny” Dawes, her loyal companion and dog Zoey, and many nieces and nephews, including Brad (Barb) Moews, Brenda (Frank) Doster, Brian (Diane) Moews, and Ron (Patty) Shelato, all who helped take special care of her before her passing. Ron and Judy Winkler, Tyler Moews, Terri Dawes, and Amanda Ponce also assisted in her care.

              Sandy graduated from the Parkland College of Nursing and began working at Carle for many years before taking a job at the Vermilion County Health Department. She volunteered many of her days at the fire department doing car seat checks for the Vermilion County Car Seat program. She and Mick enjoyed camping together.

              A visitation will be held for Sandy on Thursday, June 10, 2021 from 9:00 am until 11:00 am at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, located at 3940 N. Vermilion St., in Danville. A funeral service will follow on Thursday at 11:00 am. She will be laid to rest next to Mick at Oak Hill Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in her name to the Shultz House, located at 340 Bryan Ave., in Danville.
