Robert Robb Obituary

Robert E. Robb, 92, of Covington, passed away the morning of July 2, 2021. His parents, Musette (Martin) Robb and Charles L. Robb welcomed their pride and joy April 8, 1929, in Covington, where he spent a boyhood of adventure as only a small town, where everyone knows you, can provide. The Heggs, Hoaglands, Shelbys, Elmores and others populated his stories. His parents instilled a love of reading in Bob and his inquisitive mind and large vocabulary were the result. Childhood ended for Bob when his father, Charlie, died, leaving 15-year-old Bobby Ed to soldier on with his mother. And soldier on he did, becoming a United States Marine as soon as he was able, fulfilling a lifelong dream inspired by an older cousin, Bud Cates. Having met a young Norma Leerkamp from “across the river” while soda-jerking in Rainier’s Drug Store, Bob returned to Covington to marry her at Benson Chapel, March 12, 1950. They spent 68 years together.
Following his service and a tour in Korea, Bob started a career with General Electric. The family moved from Illinois to Kentucky and back, affording Bob and Norma many opportunities as GE sent them to Mexico and Germany for projects and expansions. Thus, began their many travel experiences, from Costa Rica to Southern France and places in between. They especially loved Savannah and their old Marine Corps stomping grounds in North Carolina. In retirement, Bob and Norma returned to Covington, playing a large role in the lives of their grandchildren. Bob thought his family was “exceptional” and they returned the sentiment.
Four children shared this life: Charles (Barbara) of Frankfort, KY, Robert Steven of Daytona, FL, Julie of Covington, and Shirley (Neil) Jefferson of Covington.
Six grandchildren: Sarah Robb Spedding (Chris), James Robb, Tommy Robb, Elizabeth Delp (Christopher), Catherine Jefferson (John Jaskiewicz), Jessie Jefferson.
Seven greats: Carter Hays, Kate Hayes, Griffin and Spencer Delp, Josephine, George and Coraline Jaskiewicz.
The memories include Bob’s love of music and talented trumpet-playing, his interest in sailing and woodworking, his sense of humor and generosity. Preceded in death by infant daughter, Laurie, and his wife Norma. Bob will be remembered as a good friend and loving husband and father.
A celebration of Bob’s Life will be held at 2pm EST. Saturday July 10, 2021, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Covington, Indiana, 420 3rd street Covington, Indiana 47932.
