Robert E. Clem

Robert (Bob) Eugene Clem, 87, of Danville passed away December 18, 2020 at The Waters of Covington in Indiana. He was born in Danville, Illinois on July 15, 1933 a son of Ruth and Malcom Clem. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Patricia Ann Clem (Swan).

Bob is survived by his wife Sharon Clem and Dorothy Clem (divorced) with whom he had four sons: Douglas Wayne Clem and Kelly Scott Clem of Columbia, MO; Bryan Clark Clem of Danville; and Bradley Eugene Clem of Bend, OR. Also surviving is his brother Norman Scott Clem (Oveta) of Covington, IN.

Bob was a terrific athlete at Danville High School, playing the position of quarterback on the DHS football team. He also was a guard on the DHS Illinois State Championship Final Four basketball team. He also lettered in baseball and tennis. He played drums in the DHS band.

After graduating from William Jewell College with a bachelor’s degree in physical education and being a four-sport letterman, Bob enlisted in the Marines, achieved the rank of First Lieutenant, and was stationed in Japan in 1956. Upon his honorable discharge, Bob returned to Illinois and worked as the athletic director at the YMCA in Joliet, IL for a year. He then served as athletic and program director at the old YMCA in downtown Danville, and then at the new Family YMCA at its current location on N. Vermilion St. He retired after 23 years of Y work. He was an avid golf enthusiast in retirement, and mowed a zillion yards for friends and neighbors.

Bob held many memberships throughout his lifetime, including the Danville Kiwanis International and Ridgeview Baptist Church.

A Memorial Service and internment of ashes will be performed at a later date. He will be laid to rest in Sunset Memorial Park.
