Nancy Moore Obituary

It is with profound sadness that the family of Nancy J. (Starkey) Moore announce her passing on March 30, 2020 at the age of 75 in her adopted home of Grayslake, Illinois.

Nancy was born December 22, 1944, in Danville, Illinois, becoming the youngest of Rolland and Doris (Johnson) Starkey’s eight children.

She married James S. L. (Jim) Moore on Valentine’s Day in 1964 and together they celebrated their 56th Anniversary on February 14, 2020.

Other survivors include three daughters, Kimberly (Paul) Kretekos of Glenview, Ill., Gina (Daniel) Stehl of Skokie, Ill., and Angela (Christopher) Jackson of Hawthorn Woods, Ill.; four grandchildren, Mason Kretekos, Nicole Kretekos, Lauren Jackson and Madeline Jackson; a brother, Mervin (Judy) Starkey and a sister, Judy Swider.

Nancy was a graduate of Danville High School and Danville Area Community College. The latter she attended as an adult with teenage children, earning an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Development with straight As. She worked as a preschool instructor and teacher’s aide in the Little Rascals program, Head Start and then for 15 years at Danville District 118 schools. Nancy also had worked at Faulstich Printing Company.

Together with Jim, Nancy put her three daughters through college debt free, seeing them off into successful careers of their own. The two ardently supported their children and grandchildren by attending every game, meet and concert.

Nancy was a fitness advocate long before it was trendy and loved working out at the Danville Area Community College Fitness Center and at the Libertyville (Ill.) Fitness Center.  She was an avid reader and an exceptional homemaker. Nancy loved cooking and baking, especially for her grandchildren. Store-bought was not part of her vocabulary. Her Thanksgiving feasts will be greatly missed.

A reluctant bowler, Nancy participated in many leagues with Jim over the years. Even though she didn’t care much for bowling, Nancy still received many trophies including several for seasonal high game. Nancy also grinned and beared the family’s annual fishing trips to Wisconsin, and even though fishing was never her favorite activity, she still regularly caught the most fish of anyone in the boat.

Nancy also was a long-time member of Danville’s First Church of the Nazarene.

A private service will be held on Friday, April 3, 2020 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834 with Pastor Dave Anderson officiating. She will be laid to rest at Springhill Cemetery in Danville. Memorial donations may be made in Nancy’s name to Danville’s First Church of the Nazarene.
