Michael Nixon Obituary

Danville – Michael L. Nixon, 70, of Kokomo, IN formerly of Danville, IL passed away on September 24, 2021 at Marion General Hospital in Marion, IN.

Michael was born on February 18, 1951 the son of Jack and Juanita (Barrett) Nixon in Danville, IL. He married Christina DeVors on January 17, 1971 in Danville, IL and she survives of Kokomo, IN.

Survivors include his wife, Chris Nixon of Kokomo, IN, his children, Leah (Neil) Rys of Danville, IL, Rena (Chris) McMahon of Danville, IL, Sarah (Jose) Torres of Danville, IL, Jessica (Ryan) Gawinski of Greenwood, IN, Nicole Nixon of Rossville, IL and Mike Nixon of Danville, IL, step father, Ronald Minyard of Tilton, IL, grandchildren, Andrew, Alexandria, Austin, Amber, Lauren, Larson, Ciara, Kaylie, Joseph, Braden, Emily, Elaine, Armani, Caden, Cale, Jordan, Gage and Logan,  great-grandchildren, Harlyn, Jayce, and Maevyn, siblings, Kathy Moore of
Tilton, IL, Karen (Charles “Buddy”) Dubois of Covington, IN and Barbara “Bobbie” Nixon of Swannanoa, NC.

Michael is preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Carrie Nixon and one brother, Mark Nixon and one brother-in-law, Kenny Moore.

Michael attended Danville schools and enlisted in Army, served with 101st Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, Fort Sill and Vietnam in 1969. Michael retired and was credited for working 36.3 years at General Motors in Tilton, IL and Kokomo, IN. He was a Lifetime member of the DAV, American Legion, VFW, the Howard County Vietnam Veterans Association. Michael loved his Brothers in Arms, enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, cooking out and family get togethers, he found joy in a good casino, and loved to play GIN with his wife, who was the love of his life. 

A Celebration of Life on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834. Steve Pearson will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park with Military Rites accorded by American Legion Post 210. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 1,, 2021 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at the funeral home.

It is kindly requested that those in attendance of services wear a face mask and practice social distancing.

Memorials may be made to the Veterans Charity of the Donor’s Choice.
