Kathryn Horvatich Obituary

Kathryn Horvatich, 98, passed away on Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at Accolade Healthcare of Danville. She was born on February 19, 1923 the daughter of Harry and Mayme O’Bryan in Evansville, IN.

Kathy leaves behind her children, Don (Judi) Hammerstein and Mary (Kevin Bartlow) Buck; several stepchildren; grandchildren, Birni Stickell, Jeanne (Delphine) Goodblanket, Ben (Tara) Stickell, Bryan Stickell, Michael Stibbs, Sherri Brandon, Tracy Terrien, Aaron (Angela) Wagle, Karin Hammerstein, Kris Hammerstein, Sheryl (Ben) Hammerstein, Derek (Stacy) Hammerstein, Kyle Hammerstein, Valerie Buck, and Warren Buck; as well as many great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husbands, Joseph Hammerstein, Robert Bowen, and Joseph Horvatich; children, Judy Zappier, Tom Hammerstein, and Joan Hultenius; grandchild, Debbie Pollard; and great grandchildren, Steven Terrien and Karlie Wagle; two brothers; and two sisters.

Kathy lived a very full 98 years. She held a variety of jobs as a secretary and clerical worker. She was also a musician and entertainer. She played piano and sang in lounges, nightclubs, and various venues everywhere she lived including Evansville, IN, San Diego, CA, Danville, IL, Freeport, IL, and Griffith, IN. She played at many places in Danville, including the Lamplighter, Brown Derby, Grier Lincoln, Holiday Inn, the Cellar, and Shakey’s Pizza. Kathy had many hobbies and interests, such as playing bingo, planning family picnics, traveling, cooking, going to casinos and organizing Army reunions. She was a long-time member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church. She adored her many pets over the years. But above all, the most important thing in her life was her huge family. Kathy was widowed three times and loved all her stepfamilies as her own. All three husbands were members of the 240th Field Artillery Battalion, serving in Europe during WWII.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834. Officiating will be Father Bo Schmitt. Burial will be in the Danville National Cemetery. Visitation will be held just prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
