Karen O’Neal, 63, of Covington, Indiana, passed away at 4:41pm, Tuesday, April 30, 2019, in Covington. She was born on June 6, 1955, in Clinton, Indiana, the daughter of Ervin and Thelma {Millikan} Walters. She was united in marriage to Jerry O’Neal who will miss her dearly.
She is also survived by: her mother, Thelma Walters; her daughters, Suzanne Walters, Sarah (Jason) Payton, & Kodi O’Neal; her sisters, Linda (Stan) Piatt, Vickie Richardson, & Janet (Mark) DeFiori; her grandchildren, Austin, Jake, & Blake; her eleven nieces & nephews; many great nieces & great nephews; her special family member, Richard Gibbs; and her special friend, Terry Cummins. She was preceded in death by her father and her son, Joshua O’Neal.
Karen worked as a Registered Nurse for 25 years, the majority of those spent at the Danville VA. She was a lifetime member of the Cayuga Presbyterian Church, sung in the Church Choir and served as elder. She enjoyed rock collecting, as well as collecting antiques and visiting Brown County State Park. She also liked reading books especially by author, J.R. Tolkien. Karen was often gardening and watching the butterflies and could never resist admiring babies. She will be missed by all who knew her.
A celebration of Karen’s life will be held at 11:00am (EST), Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Covington, located at 420 3rd Street with Pastor Dave Sims & Pastor Bill Henry officiating. Visitation will be held 4:00pm to 7:00pm (EST), Monday, May 6, 2019, at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest in Mount Hope Cemetery, Covington. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in her name to Cayuga Presbyterian Church.
