Hildred 'Hildy' (Uplinger) Volkel

     Hildred ‘Hildy’ Volkel {Uplinger}, 83, of Perrysville, IN, passed away at 5:20pm, Sunday, January 29, 2023, at her home surrounded by her loved ones.  She was born October 26, 1940, in Cayuga, IN, the daughter of Johnny and Helen {Dugger} Uplinger.  She was united in marriage to Curtis E. Volkel on August 8, 1959, until his passing on June 2, 2019.
     Hildred will be missed by her son, Len (Jeanne) Volkel of Albertsville, IN; her grandson, Joseph L. (Megan) Burton of Perrysville, IN; two granddaughters, Ashleigh (David) Richards of Grant, AL, and Sarah Burton of Danville, IL; one step granddaughter, Danielle Wright of Huntsville, AL; three great granddaughters, Kadence Kirby, Karleigh Kirby, and Tessa Whichmann, all of Alabama; three brothers, Gerald Uplinger, Byron Uplinger, and Newt Uplinger; and her seven sisters, Margie Welch, Mildred Delp, Gretchen Douglas, Maxine Dillon, Helen Vansickle, Bonnie Lewis, and Carolyn Meng; and many nieces and nephews she loved greatly.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Brian Volkel; her daughter, Lori Burton; and two sisters, Alma Loveall and Patsy Delp.
     Hildy was known and loved by so many.  She worked as a CNA for over 41 and half years and retired from Provena Hospital in 2000.  Once retired, she spent a lot of time raising goats and helping her grandchildren with all of their 4-H projects.  She also enjoyed making baked goods and entering them in the County Fair open shows.  While she loved gardening and canning, she especially loved spending time with her friends including her new friend and caregiver, Doris Delp, whom she became very close to.  She was also known for her love of Bingo.  This was her and her daughter, Lori’s, special time of the week, and her scratch off lottery tickets.  She will be dearly remembered all whose lives she touched.
     As per her wishes, Hildy will be accorded cremation rites with a celebration of her life at a later date.  Her arrangements were entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Covington, Indiana 420 3rd St. Covington, Indiana 47932.  Memorial donations may be given in her name to donor’s choice of charity.  Please join her family in sharing memories through her Tribute Wall at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com.
