Hershell Wayne Steenbergen

Danville – Hershell Wayne Steenbergen, 78, of Danville passed away at 11:10 PM at OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center in Danville, IL on January 11, 2022.

Hershell was born on May 9, 1943 the son of Hershell and Ruth Laverne (Bush) Steenbergen in Glasgow, KY. He married Billie sue Martin on June 11, 1960 in Danville, IL and she survives.

Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Billie Sue Steenbergen of Danville, IL, three daughters, Brenda (Stacey) Henderson of Danville, IL, Debi (Kevin) Kagels of Westville, IL, and Sue Steenbergen of Westfield, IN, eight grandchildren, Jenna, Mario, Kyl, Michael, Jesse, Kory, Nicia and Imelda, 13 great grandchildren, Kaydence, Gabriel, Maddie, Khloee, Landon, Izzy B, Aasia, Willow, Korbyn, Zoey, Braylen, Xavier, Luna, with one more on the way, one sister, Linda (Orville) Mosier of Bismarck, IL and special friends, Leon Parker, Don Stanton and John Weaver.

Hershell is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Russell Steenbergen.

Hershell was the Superintendent of the Danville Public Safety Building for over 30 years. He enjoyed spending his free time playing cards, fishing, and gardening. Most of all, Hershell loved to spend time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Lutheran Cemetery in Danville, IL. Pastor Kent Tibben will officiate. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834 is assisting the family with arrangements.

It is kindly requested that those in attendance wear a mask and practice social distancing.

Memorials are requested in Hershell’s memory to St Jude’s Childrens Research Hospital.
