Duane Anthony “Yogi” Lutchka, 61, of Westville, was called to his heavenly home on Friday, January 22, 2021 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 14, 1959 in El Paso, TX, to parents Duane and Marian (Kotcher) Lutchka.
He will be dearly missed by his mother, Marian Lutchka of Westville; daughter, Kristen (David) Gady of Sadorus; son, Dustin (Kayla Burks) Lutchka of Westville; brothers, David (Cindy) Lutchka of Danville, Daniel (Denise) Lutchka of Carterville, and Doug Lutchka of Danville; sisters, Dianne Lutchka of Westville and Darlene (Aaron Workman) Lutchka of De Soto; grandchildren, Nolan Wallace, Dawson Gady, Dannalee and Daxton Lutchka. Yogi is also survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and his beloved dog, Reload. He was preceded in death by his father, Duane G. Lutchka.
Yogi attended St. Mary’s grade school and graduated from Westville High School. He was proud to serve his country in the United States Air Force. He completed two associates degrees at Danville Area Community College, the most recent being in Electronics Technology. Yogi worked as an industrial electrician at several factories in the area. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, and he loved to golf, fish, bowl, and cook on the grill. He was a jack of all trades and the designated family handyman, working on all things electronic or mechanical. He also spent time working in the garden and was often found napping in his recliner. His greatest joy was being a grandpa, and he enjoyed attending as many school functions and sporting events as he could for all of the children in the family. Yogi loved his family and cherished every minute he was able to spend with them. His legacy will live on in the memories he created with them. He will also be dearly missed by all of his friends in the Geezer Golf League at Wolf Creek Golf Club.
A celebration of Yogi’s life will be held at 11:00am on Friday, January 29, 2021 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 231 N. State St, Westville, IL. Fr. Timothy Sauppe will be officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00pm to 6:30pm on Thursday, January 28, 2021 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 414 S. State St, Westville, IL 61883, with a Catholic rosary at 3:30pm. He will be laid to rest in St. Peter and Paul Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in his honor to Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation. It is kindly requested that those in attendance wear facial coverings and practice social distancing for both visitation and service.
