Donald Wagner Obituary

Danville – Donald A. Wagner, 94, of Danville passed away at 9:29 PM on March 12, 2020 at North Logan Health Care.

Donald was born on March 26, 1925 the son of John and Anna (Gross) Wagner in Danville, IL.  He married Anna Irene Metcalf on September 17, 1949 at St Patrick’s Catholic Church in Danville and she preceded in death on May 20, 2008.

Survivors include seven children, John (Patty) Wagner of Covington, IN, Mary Ellen (Dennis) Buesking of Indianapolis, IN, Jim (Karen) Wagner of Danville, IL, Joe Wagner of Danville, Martha (Mike) Yusko of O’Fallon, IL, Margie (John) Alexander of Owensboro, KY and Tom (Rhonda) Wagner of Danville, IL, as well as his grandchildren, Donny Lee Wagner, Joe (Lauren) Buesking, Andy (Lani) Wagner, Amy (Paul) Linduska, Caleb (Maria) Wagner, Megan (Chris) Webster, Matthew Jones, Sarah (Reggie) Warfield, Mason Wagner, Riley Wagner and 16 great-grandchildren.

Donald is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Anna as well as his son, Donald F. Wagner and grandsons, Charlie Wagner and Adam Donald Wagner.

Donald was a 1943 Graduate of Danville High School and entered the United States Navy three weeks after graduation. He was a Signalman aboard the LST 985 and was discharged in 1946 at Shanghai to return to the United States after three years of Honorable Service to his country.  

After returning from the Navy, Donald was employed at Goodloe E. Moore and later he worked for Custom Kitchen Shop and retired from Voorhees Lumber. Donald also operated his own insulation business, Wagner Insulation. All his children worked with him in this business at one time or another.   He was known for his beautiful gardens, primarily growing tomatoes. Donald was also an avid fisherman and enjoyed playing Bridge and Euchre.

There will be Private Family Services followed by Entombment in Resurrection Cemetery with a Celebration of Life Mass to be scheduled at a later date. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834 is assisting the family with arrangements.

Memorials may be made in Donald’s memory St Paul’s Catholic Church.
