Carl Edward Smith

Danville – Carl Edward Smith, 66, of Danville passed away at 5:50 PM on February 11, 2021 at OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center in Danville, IL.

Carl was born on November 29, 1954 in Exeter, VA the son of Jess and Mary (Wynn) Smith.  He married Glenda Hall on May 8, 1974 in Danville, IL and she survives.

Survivors include his wife, Glenda Smith of Danville, one son, Jeremy (Stefanie) Smith of Danville, IL, one daughter, Patrina Smith of Westville, IL, one brother, Denny (Bobby) Smith of Danville, IL, one sister, Genise Humbert of Virginia, four grandchildren, Emalee Smith, Jace Smith, Blake Smith and Emmit Klugow as well as special nephews, Keith Smith and Frankie Rhea and special friends, Josh Hutson and Corey Murphy.

Carl is preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Bridget Smith Klugow and several brothers and sisters.

Carl was a member of the Teamsters Union and a retired truck driver for USF Holland. He also operated a Snowplow during the winter for the Illinois Department of Transportation.  Carl enjoyed hunting and fishing. He participated in many fishing tournaments, where he would receive trophies, and prize monies.  In his younger days he was an avid card player, especially Poker and in later years, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and making “cheeseburger” runs with them.

A Private Family Celebration of Life Service will be held. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834 is assisting the family with arrangements. Rod Godley will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

It is kindly requested that those in attendance of the visitation or service wear a mask and practice social distancing.

Memorials may be made in Carl’s memory to the Ilini Bass Club and Vermilion County D.A.R.E program Youth Fishing Derby.
