Almajane Shumaker, 97, was born on October 25, 1921 to Robert and Gertie Roe. She passed away on January 3, 2019 at 8:40pm.
Almajane graduated from Rossville High School in 1939, and then graduated from Utterback’s Business College. She was married to Gene Shumaker on January 11, 1942 when she was 21 years old. Gene passed away April 24, 1960 at age 47
Almajane worked at McColm Construction and then Provena Hospital, as a secretary for many years. She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Danville, where she served on the Church Board and was a Sunday School teacher for many years.
Almajane spent most of her life on the farm on Shake Rag Road near Bismarck. She referred to herself as a “Farmerette”. She loved the country life and the freedom it gave her.
In November 2012, due to a fall in her home, she spent a few days in Provena and then moved on to Country Health Nursing Home in Gifford, Illinois where she remained until her death.
Almajane had a nephew, Tom (Linda) Shumaker of Bismarck; and several cousins, Jack Smock, Marybelle Smock as Amy Boen. As well as her special friends, as she called them, Ken and Jeanette Knight of Potomac, Illinois who cared for her and visited her almost weekly for the past six years.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2pm on Monday January 7, 2019 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 3940 N. Vermilion St. in Danville. Officiating will be Pastor Dave Anderson. Visitation will be held from 1pm to 2pm prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rossville Cemetery immediately following the service. Memorial donations may be made to First Church of the Nazarene.
